The Saginaw Defenders Office has an internship program for college students, law schools students, and recent law school graduates. The Internship Programs is very much a hands-on experience.
Social Work Internship
Our social work internship is open to any BSW or MSW student who is interested in learning more about the criminal justice field from the holistic defense perspective. Students will have the opportunity to work directly with clients. Students will work with partnering agencies to assist clients addresses the underlying issues that may lead to recidivism, such as homelessness, mental health illnesses, substance use disorders, trauma, and poverty. Students will be supervised by an experience and licensed social worker.
Law Student and Recent Graduate Internship
This internship will give law students and recent law school graduates opportunities to work under skilled attorneys so that they can develop the skills they need to take into their future practices. Law students and recent law school graduates would assist licensed, experienced attorneys pursuant to the Michigan Court Rules, MCR 8.120. This internship often leads to employment with the office.
We accept interns year-round. You may email your cover letter and resume to our office manager, Amy Medd, at amedd@saginawdefenders.org
